Healthcare professionals in San Pablo now have a faster, more flexible way to complete their American Heart Association® training. Safety Training Seminars at 42090 23rd St, Room 8, San Pablo, CA 94806 offers Self-Guided Learning™ courses for BLS, ACLS, and PALS—combining self-paced online learning with a hands-on skills session at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center.
Whether you work at Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center on Nevin Avenue, serve patients at West County Health Center on San Pablo Ave, or study at Contra Costa College just minutes away, this training fits around your schedule. No fixed class times. No group sessions. Just flexible, American Heart Association-approved training you complete on your terms.
Self-Guided Learning™ is an American Heart Association® course format that combines two independent components:
This is different from Blended Learning, which requires an instructor-led skills check, or traditional Instructor-Led Classroom Learning, which takes place in a single scheduled session. With Self-Guided Learning courses, you control the timeline from start to finish.
Upon successful completion of both components, learners receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS—valid for two years and accepted by hospitals, clinics, nursing schools, and employers across Contra Costa County and beyond.
The online portion of each Self-Guided Learning course uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. This technology continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence, then adjusts the content path in real time.
Here’s what that means in practice:
The result is a personalized, competency-focused experience you complete independently on any compatible device—desktop, laptop, or tablet. You can start the course at 6 AM before a shift at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, or finish it late at night from home.
Completion of the online learning activity alone does not result in an AHA Course Completion eCard. You must also complete the self-guided skills session.
After finishing the online learning activity, you complete a hands-on skills session independently at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center. Safety Training Seminars operates this station at their San Pablo office, located at the corner of 23rd St and Standard Ave—across from the U.S. Postal Office, with free street parking and an on-site lot at 2079 23rd St.
During the self-guided skills session:
This objective measurement approach ensures every learner meets the same American Heart Association standard—regardless of experience level.
Safety Training Seminars offers three core Self-Guided Learning courses through the HeartCode® Complete format for healthcare professionals.
The BLS Provider course targets nurses, physicians, EMTs, paramedics, medical students, and allied health professionals. It covers adult and pediatric CPR, AED use, relief of foreign-body airway obstruction, and 2-rescuer CPR techniques.
BLS Provider training meets requirements for clinical rotations, hospital employment, and licensure renewal across facilities like Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center (901 Nevin Ave, Richmond, CA 94801) and West County Health Center (13601 San Pablo Ave, San Pablo, CA 94806).
The ACLS Provider course trains healthcare professionals to manage cardiac arrest, stroke, acute coronary syndromes, and advanced airway emergencies.
ACLS certification serves emergency department staff, ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, and physicians who manage high-acuity patients at facilities throughout Contra Costa County.
The PALS Provider course prepares healthcare teams to recognize and treat seriously ill infants and children. It covers respiratory emergencies, shock, arrhythmias, and resuscitation algorithms for pediatric patients.
PALS training is required for pediatric nurses, pediatric emergency physicians, and professionals who rotate through children’s wards and NICU units.
Note: HeartCode® is a trademark of the American Heart Association.
Self-Guided Learning courses work especially well for professionals with demanding, unpredictable schedules. Here’s why the format delivers:
Flexibility: Complete the online component anytime, anywhere—before a shift, during a break, or at home.
Speed: The skills session takes 30 minutes for BLS and ACLS/PALS. You spend zero time waiting for a class to fill or an instructor to become available.
Same-day eCard: Upon successful completion of both components, you receive your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard immediately. No delays, no waiting.
Low Price Guarantee: Safety Training Seminars matches or beats any lower price for legitimate AHA training. BLS starts at $120. ACLS and PALS are $290 each.
Open daily: The San Pablo office operates Monday through Sunday, 8 AM to 10 PM. Classes run every day of the week, including evenings and weekends.
AC Transit access: Bus lines stop at 23rd Street and Standard Avenue, directly outside the training center.
Self-Guided Learning courses are designed for:
Certifications issued by Safety Training Seminars are accepted by hospitals, clinics, nursing schools, dental offices, EMT programs, home health agencies, and local government organizations throughout the region.

EXCELLENT Based on 112 reviews Posted on Erika OrtizTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great experiencePosted on Jessica RoblesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The experience was great! I was able to do the course from the comfort of my home (but I did like that there is an option to take the class in person). Gaining access to my account when it came time to do the hand on portion was simple. I like that I was in a room in my own and was able to work through the compressions/ breaths in my own time. Overall, I really liked the ease of getting my BLS certification renewed.Posted on Chip WilliamsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great system learned a lotPosted on Lester MenesesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. At first, it felt a bit awkward since there were no staff present on site. However, thanks to the excellent customer service and guidance, everything went smoothly. Miss Sheppard was very patient and made sure all my questions were answered. Practicing on the mannequin helped me feel confident in my BLS skills. I would highly recommend this training to anyone looking to renew their BLS training or learn lifesaving techniques.Posted on Kristina PortilloTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Using the Voice Assisted Manikin (VAM) was great! It took a second to get used to, but once I got into the rhythm it was smooth sailing. Watching the provided videos beforehand definitely helped prepare me for what to expect stepping in. I took off one star for location - the building/parking was not the easiest to find. There is NO signage outside of the building reading "STS". The entry instructions read that the main door being locked was rare and that the interior door leading to the hallway being locked was very rare and I just happened to encounter both on a Wednesday morning. The lock box which housed the front door key was not easy to find and the building was completely dark upon entry, feeling empty and not the safest. On a positive note the customer service rep was SO helpful throughout and stayed on with me until I made it into the training room.Posted on Aicka KangTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Truly amazing! I had a learning curve in the beginning and called the help line to extend my session time. They were so responsive and advised me to move on to the next session and come back to the portionPosted on Lorena FraustoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was confusing where the entrance door was located but once you enter, you should see a sign and a number 8. Bathroom is close by which is convenient. Once you enter, you will see two stations, A & B. Whichever you choose, you will apply gloves and log in. I felt comfortable being by myself because I can take frequent breaks. You will get tired often so take breaks when you can. I was stuck on one section and I couldn't advance. I became frustrated and took a break. The automated directions was very helpful and videos as well. I finally was able to complete the section I was stuck and now my BLS is renewed. Don't give up, keep going until you pass, it's a workout, broke a sweat but you will notice what you did wrong and correct it right there. I highly recommend this place and come early since its hidden and hard to find. Good luck!! :)Posted on JanetteTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The online course was simple and easy to complete independently. The in person skills test was also simple enough to complete independently, the computer gives good feedback to work on and improve in real time. However, I believe one of the stations (station A) is faulty as it does not accurately record manikin chest recoil. I encountered no issues with Station B.
